Weekly review: Week ending October 19, 2018

  • Kaizen
    • We tried protein powder. Mixing it with soy milk and adding a few spoons of plain yogurt made it more palatable for me.
    • I made a Tasker shortcut to open a Facebook Messenger chat with my mom. This makes it easier to check if she's online.
  • Gross motor
    • We moved the tables around to give A- lots of floor space for biking around.
    • W- ziptied a basket to A-‘s balance bike. She had lots of fun zooming around the house with her sheep.
    • A- put some books in her bicycle basket and biked on our errands.
  • Fine motor
    • A- was interested in folding paper balls, and was able to mostly follow along. She also used scissors to cut reasonably straight lines by following a crease.
    • A- formed letters out of playdough on her own initiative: C, O, L, U.
    • A- cut a passable P shape out of felt.
  • Sensory
    • A- and I played horsey. She liked that a lot.
  • Language
    • I poured milk for A-. She said, “I want lotter.”
    • A playful counterfactual statement: “Who wants this water bottle? I don't like it.” A- wanted to play a keep-away game using her new water bottle.
    • “You can come join me. I have a book.” A- invited us to listen to a bedtime story.
    • A- found her nametag from nature class and temporarily switched to being A- again.
    • “What's the paper liner doing? what's the rain drop doing?” A- tried to delay bedtime by asking about lots of little details in a picture book.
  • Sleep
    • A- skipped her nap and fell asleep during our post-dinner walk. She woke up for a midnight snack and took a while to get back to bed.
    • A- fell asleep on my lap while reading, so we stayed on the couch.
    • A- wanted me to do the guided sleep meditation for Sheep: “Sheep's eyes are heavy and relaxed…”
  • Emotion
    • A- had a big tantrum about missing Daddy. She was tired, too. She settled down when I started watching videos of W- near her, and she eventually fell asleep in the sling.
  • Household
    • A- dropped a bean on the floor. Without prompting, she opened the sink cabinet, got the dustpan, moved the chair, swept up the dropped bean, and put it in the garbage can.
    • A- wanted to feed the cats all by herself. She insisted that I stay upstairs. She got a little stressed out about the cats eating out of the food box, though, so I helped shoo them away temporarily.
  • Social
    • “I made a joke. Hahahaha!”
    • A- invited W- to go on a walk. “Just you and me. The two of us. Not Mommy.”
    • “Mama, cover me with kisses.”
    • We had Jen and E- over. I cooked tonkatsu and roasted vegetables. E- really liked playing with the cats, and A- liked playing with Jen. We worked on sharing.
    • We video-chatted with my mom. A- showed her lots of things and named their colours.
  • Pretend
    • “Can you teach me how to walk?” A- likes pretending to be a baby.
    • A- wanted pretend earrings, so I made some with tape.
  • Cognition
    • A- got better at playing pat-a-cake, alternating high fives and claps instead of just doing high fives.
    • A- completed 3- to 5-piece puzzles easily.
  • World
    • A- experimented with squeezing air through a wet washcloth.
  • Self-care
    • A- practised going to the bathroom by herself.
    • A- went to the bathroom all by herself. After she pooed, she asked me to help her wipe.
